Halperin floating Sen. Lugar (R-IN) as surprise Obama VP pick

Just posted moments ago under the banner "HOOSIER VALUES"

http://thepage.time.com

This would definitely be a surprise and, if it happens (which I think is unlikely) would likely prod McCain into choosing Lieberman or a moderate Republican like Ridge who supports abortion rights.

Halperin is such a fucking idiot (none / 0)

He is intolerable.

Re: Halperin floating (none / 0)

Halperin doesn't know his butt from page eight.

That said, I'd support an Obama/Lugar ticket!

Agreed, however... (2.00 / 3)

I draw the line at an Obama/Luthor ticket.

How about (none / 0)

Obama / Sideshow Bob '08?  I can see pluses and minuses.

I am sorry (none / 0)

but not going to happen.  Lugar over Bayh?  Right.

by linc on Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 08:24:37 PM EST

I would vastly prefer (none / 0)

Lugar to Bayh.  But it would still be a bad idea.  Lugar is a loose cannon for the Republicans at the best of times.  A few "honest man" comments from running-mate Lugar at the wrong time could torpedo Obama.

Re: I would vastly prefer (none / 0)

Lugar a loose cannon? You have to be kidding.  That's not his temperament at all.

I tend to agree on your assessments of Halperin (none / 0)

But hey, there's not much more to talk about right now and this is intriguing. Why not have at it? Its no more baseless than any of the other speculation we've engaged in. ;)

Re: Halperin floating Sen. Lugar (R-IN) as surpris (none / 0)

His article provides no real evidence, just a couple of random quotes from Obama that he "respects" Luger, combined with his statement about the qualities he's looking for in a VP.

Re: Halperin floating Sen. Lugar (R-IN) as surpris (none / 0)

LOL.  The games are getting silly now.

I think they want to name every possibility so (none / 0)

they could say we told you so

Intriguing, but maybe a tad too much change ;0)

Re: Lugar (none / 0)

...didn't realize Obama had a foreign policy problem, and if he did, only he himself could solve it.  I think he's pretty confident in his own judgment and abilities and made it clear he wanted an economic partner.

by alamedadem on Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 08:34:08 PM EST

My take, exactly (none / 0)

Um (none / 0)

If he's got to pick a Republican it would be Hagel, whom I would prefer anyway.

I don't see either happening, though.

by Reaper0Bot0 on Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 08:35:17 PM EST

Halperin hinted at this days ago (none / 0)

Lugar is 76 years old and, unlike Hagel, HAS endorsed McCain for President.

It's just stupid.

by ChrisG7 on Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 08:35:47 PM EST

Re: Halperin hinted at this days ago (none / 0)

Also, if Obama was going to choose a Republican running mate, I think he would have had to drop that at least a week ago in order to smooth over relations with delegates angry that he did not choose from within the party. Announcing a GOPer four days before the convention doesn't give them enough to time to quash a floor fight over the VP pick.

Halperin Is Insane (none / 0)

Enough said.

I do believe it'll be a surprise pick though: Hillary Clinton.

Re: Halperin floating Sen. Lugar (R-IN) (none / 0)

I think Obama will pick McCain as his running mate.

by slynch on Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 08:58:22 PM EST

Re: Halperin floating Sen. Lugar (R-IN) (none / 0)

And then McCain will pick Obama to be his running mate.  As the two tickets become one, it will be up to the Ralph Nader/Woody Harrelson ticket to save us all.

What this shows is (none / 0)

some people will say anything to get attention; no matter how stupid it is--Halperin totally proves that.
